Twilio Authy review

Download Authy on the App Store for iOS and Google Play for Android.

Functionality – 5/5

Authy app helps you to create an additional security level on your mobile device. It can generate random 6-digit tokens, which then are automatically copied to the dashboard for instant pasting in apps and on websites.

Design – 4.5/5

Authy latest version design is pretty much the same as it used to be 5 years ago when we did the first Authy review. It’s convenient and reliable but it seems a bit sluggish sometimes. The UI of the version for wearables also needs some improvements to speed up routine interactions.

Usability – 5/5

Using the iOS and Android Authy app, you can make 2FA much more accessible. It can help get by if you travel a lot and can’t receive SMS with codes. The offline generator will provide you with compatible 2FA passcodes for all popular applications and websites without the risk of causing a breach in your account. It’s also a common solution for bitcoin account protection. It’s a default option for Coinbase, BitGo, CEX.IO, and other user bases.

Cross-platform use – 5/5

No matter how many devices you use, the passcodes never repeat due to the cross-platform cloud synchronization. It also means that you don’t have to scan codes to enter on other devices because it’s enough to add it in the list of supported devices in your account settings. You can install Authy on iOS 7.0, Android 4.0, and all later versions, including iOS 13 and Android Q. You can also enable the authenticator on your Apple Watch and Android’s Wear OS. The desktop version is available for Windows and Mac OS computers, as well.

In-app Purchases

Authy free download allows you to use the full roster of features. You’re not supposed to pay for the service and can use an unlimited number of codes during the day. The token cloud for backups is also provided for free. It syncs data in the background mode so that you don’t forget to backup data.

The Bottom Line

2-factor authentication is one of the most popular account protection methods. It’s very old, but still very credible and unbreakable in 99% of cases. Using Authy, you can be sure that all your 2FA keys are secure and available for you from any device, even if you lose one of them. It’s a convenient solution for personal purposes and business.

Cons:

  • The interface needs interaction speed-boosting
  • Cosmetic improvements are needed too.

Pros:

  • Security cloud storage for used tokens
  • All features available for free
  • Simple setup
  • Cross-platform use
  • Works with almost all accounts.
